What the model is suitable for
suitable with restrictions for blue-water sailing and long-distance cruising
Spacious, easy-to-sail cruising catamaran whose hull is praised by long-term owners after several Atlantic crossings and storms up to wind force 10. Weak points are the problematic hybrid drive of the early 420, moderate sailing performance, creaking and build-quality defects in the interior fit-out, and a thin body of technical data. Usable for the trade-wind route with diesel propulsion and a thorough survey of bridgedeck clearance, bulkheads and core. Multihulls World issue 154 (2017) praises the design and comfort of the 420/421 but confirms the weak light-wind and upwind performance and the hybrid of the early series.
